Travel Fellowships

We are very pleased to announce that as many as 52 complete travel fellowships are available for African students and researchers to attend the ISCB Africa ASBCB Joint Conference on Bioinformatics of Infectious Diseases. The organizers acknowledge and thank KAUST for the sponsorship funding of the vast majority of these fellowships. The Wellcome Trust is also gratefully acknowledged for funding ten travel fellowships.

The Aim is to bring African students and researchers together to introduce them to a variety of research projects in computational biology, increase their awareness of the broad range of opportunities that exist in the field, and introduce them to some of the people leading this research internationally.

Funding and Eligibility:


  • Funding will support the registration, travel and accommodation of students and researchers. The funding will consist of:
    1. Travel & registration expense stipend for travel to/from Mali and conference registration fees.
    2. Reimbursement of Mali expenses for accommodation and meals.
  • The student/researcher applicant must be studying/working in an African country.
  • The student/researcher applicant must be a current ISCB and/or ASBCB member in good standing.
  • Selected recipients need to have submitted an accepted poster or paper for this conference (acceptance notification will be sent on same day as award notification).
  • In order to accept funding the selected recipients must register for the conference and pay the registration deposit of $15 USD for Africans and $100 USD for non-Africans in advance of receiving any fellowship funding.The balance of the registration fee will be paid by the fellowship funds.
  • Unsuccessful fellowship applicants from Africa and African students and post docs attending without a fellowship may request a registration discount. If granted, a special registration fee of $35 USD will apply. See registration page for details.
