University of Alabama at Birmingham
USA-AL-Birmingham
Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Structural Bioinformatics

A two-year postdoctoral fellow position in Structural Bioinformatics is available at the Section on Statistical Genetics (SSG) in the Department of Biostatistics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Successful candidates will have opportunities to work on exciting new projects on protein function prediction based on structures and characterization of function-determining residues.

The ideal candidate should have demonstrated research ability in computational biology and bioinformatics or a relevant scientific discipline, interest and (to a lesser degree) experience in project areas, and a strong programming skill in a computer language (such as C/C++, Java, MATLAB/R). Knowledge of statistical machine learning and numerical optimization is a plus.

The training program at SSG is designed for postdoctoral trainees with doctoral degrees and some prior training or expertise in the statistical, mathematical, computational, or biological sciences who seek training at the interface between statistical and molecular genetics. Salary is commensurate with qualifications but in all cases equals or exceeds NIH post-doctoral stipends.

Application should be sent with a CV and a one-page statement of interest to Dr. Degui Zhi by email at dzhi@uab.edu.
