UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School
USA-NJ-Newark
Postdoc Fellow in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics

We are seeks a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to study transcriptional and post-transcriptional gene regulatory programs of the cardiac system using computational and systems approaches. The successful candidate will collaborate with scientists at the Cardiovascular Research Institute and Department of Cell Biology and Molecular Medicine of UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School, a dynamic scientific community that ranks among the top 10% of Cell Biology departments nationwide based on the volume of NIH funding. The major research focus is to elucidate gene regulatory mechanisms at transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels in several cardiac disease and aging models using DNA microarray, deep sequencing, and genomic data. Some representative publications include PNAS 105:20900 (2008), Circulation 118:1961 (2008), Cell 133:978 (2008), Circulation 116:669 (2007), Cell 130:247 (2008), JCI 117:1335 (2007), and Circ Res 100:1512 (2007). It is expected that, with strong bioinformatics and experimental supports, the successful candidate will publish as first-author and collaborating author in high impact journals.

Newark, New Jersey is in close proximity to New York City. Many scientific and educational opportunities are available in the NY/NJ metropolitan area, as well as cultural, entertainment and sports activities.

Qualified candidates will have a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field. Must be familiar with major bioinformatics programs and databases and common statistical methods. Good communication skills are necessary and knowledge of cardiovascular biology is preferred, but not required. Interested candidates should send a CV, a summary of previous research, and contact information of 2-3 referees to Dr. Bin Tian at btian@umdnj.edu.
