Next Generation Sequencing Bioinformatics Post-Doctoral Fellowships

A post-doctoral position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Christopher Porter in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Denver. The individual in this position will be responsible for computational biology and bio-informatics support of genome-scale projects using next generation sequencing technology. The major goals of the projects are the identification of drug targets in cancer cells and the identification of vector integration sites in transduced hematopoietic cells. Computational Biology mentorship and training will be provided by Aik Choon Tan, Ph.D., a computational biologist in the Division of Medical Oncology. The projects are highly collaborative and provide the opportunity to interact with investigators in numerous departments across the University of Colorado System. This position is funded by the NIH and the University of Colorado Cancer Center for 2 years with the possibility of more for the right individual.

Primary duties will include but will not be limited to the design and implementation of algorithms to map, annotate, integrate and organize data generated by next generation sequencing instruments, for use in downstream statistical analyses and validation. Duties will also include data-mining on other high-throughput data sets and preparation of figures and manuscripts.

Minimum Requirements:
• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a PhD in one of these fields of study: computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics or related fields.
• Strong programming/scripting skills (Perl/Phyton, C++/Java and R)
• Familiar with Unix/Mac/Windows environment
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Evidence of scholarly accomplishments/publications in bioinformatics journals

Desired or preferred:
• Proficiency in English
• Experience with next generation sequencing technologies
• Experience with implementing algorithms
• Experience with database design and implementation
• Background in biology, molecular biology, genetics, or genomics
• Skills/experience with biostatistics
