Key characteristics of program: This program combines coursework in bioinformatics and skills courses in computer programming with a project in the last year of the curriculum. In total the students must complete 20 taught subjects and a 6 month project.
|
Program Goals: The various courses offered at the institute in the disciplines of Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, and Biomedical technology are aimed at transforming biological inputs into commercial outputs and new products. A well designed curriculum has been developed to keep pace with emerging fields in science and technology, catering to the growing needs of industry and economy. The curriculum is continuously revised and updated every year.
Bioinformatics has a key role to play in the cutting edge Research and Development areas such as functional genomics, proteomics, protein engineering, metabolic pathway engineering, pharmacogenomics, discoveries of new drugs and vaccines, molecular diagnostic kits, agro-biotechnology etc. This has attracted attention of several companies and entrepreneurs. As a result a large number of Bioinformatics based start-ups have been launched and the trend is likely to continue. The immense development in this field has necessitated the availability of large number of formally trained individuals in Biotechnology & Bioinformatics. |
