Travel Fellowships Offered – Deadlines Now Upon Us!

ISMB 2006
If you are a student or post doc in need of travel support funding to make it to Brazil in order to present your accepted paper or poster at ISMB 2006, you are encouraged to apply immediately for a travel fellowship from the Society.

The deadline is May 1, 2006, so mere hours remain to submit your funding application. Each year more than twice as many applications are received than can be funded due to limited resources, so not all applicants will be granted travel support. However, many more students and post docs never apply at all because they believe their chances are more limited than they really are. Well, 50/50 odds are not so bad after all, and if travel support is what you need to make it to ISMB we encourage you to apply today.

Funding confirmations will begin at the end of May allowing plenty of time to capture the early conference registration discount and airline/hotel reservations at favorable rates.

ECCB 2006
Although ISCB does not directly organize or own the ECCB conference, the leaders of our Society are highly supportive of the excellent science presented at this annual conference, and recognize the outstanding educational opportunity it provides the young members of our field. Therefore, the board of directors dedicated funds within the 2006 Society budget to support student travel to ECCB (as well as RECOMB and PSB which were held in January and April respectively). The application deadline is also fast approaching: May 29, with notification by June 19.

PSB and RECOMB 2007
It is anticipated that ISCB will once again support student travel fellowships to these two conferences in 2007, as well as the combined ISMB/ECCB 2007 which will once again be held as a joint conference as it was in 2004. Therefore, watch for announcements on the ISCB website and in upcoming issues of this newsletter, and be sure to submit your applications on time for consideration as a recipient of these limited funds.
