Opportunities to submit to ISMB 2020:

Call for Abstracts!
Deadline: April 16, 2020
(closes at 11:59 p.m. April 16, Eastern Time Zone)
ISMB 2020 invites abstracts for research that are topical to bioinformatics and computational biology, which is in progress (unpublished, formally Late-Breaking Research) or has been published after January 1, 2019 (previously Highlights Track) for consideration for oral and/or poster presentation.

Call for Tech Talks!
Deadline: May 7, 2020
Take this opportunity to showcase your latest software and/or hardware relevant to the bioinformatics/molecular biology community.

ISCBacademy Webinar Series
Welcome to the ISCBacademy Webinar Series. In conjunction with the communities of special interest (COSIs), select presentations are invited to give a live-streamed talk about their research. Access to the webinar series is complimentary for ISCB members. Nonmembers can join for a fee.
Call for Contributions – CAMDA 2020 Deadline 25 May!
As a full conference track of ISMB 2020, CAMDA puts a spotlight on the successful analysis and integration of the massive data sets now prevalent in the life sciences. This year, the CAMDA scientific committee offers three analysis contests:

  • The Hi-Res Cancer Data Integration Challenge presents clinical and matched molecular profiles, with read level data for individual genomes. Explore non-standard genomes and splicing events for better prognosis!
  • The CMap Drug Safety Challenge presents clinical toxicity results, cellular and molecular responses to hundreds of drugs. Compare and integrate a range of cell line assays to predict the severity of the drug induced liver injury in humans!
  • The Metagenomic Geolocation Challenge presents thousands of city microbiome profiles in the context of climate data. Construct multi-source microbiome fingerprints and predict the ecological nice or exact geographical origin of mystery samples!
Leading scientists present their best methods and analyses. Extended papers are then published in the open access, fully indexed conference proceedings in a special issue of Biology Direct.
The Nominations for ISCB Officers & Board of Directors is Open!

ISCB Board of Directors Nominations Deadline: April 16, 2020
ISCB Officer Nominations Deadline: May 31, 2020

The International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB) is encouraging members to submit nominations for the Society’s leadership - Board of Directors and open Officer positions. Nominations are submitted at www.iscb.org/nominate (you must login to your membership record to access the nomination form). In all cases, self-nominations will not be accepted.
2019 ISCB Wikipedia Competition - Accepting Submissions!
The International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB) and the Computational Biology taskforce of WikiProject Molecular Biology announce the 9th ISCB Wikipedia Competition: the competition aims to improve the coverage on Wikipedia of any aspect of computational biology. The competition is open to students and trainees at any level either as individuals or as groups.
China Expresses Appreciation to Computational Biology Community
ISCB recently received a letter (click to view letter) from Xuegong Zhang, Ph.D., ISCB Fellow, expressing appreciation to the computational biology community for the quick analysis and research related to COVID-19 from the Chinese community.

Thomas Lengauer, Ph.D, ISCB Fellow, ISCB President, responded to the letter (click to view response) noting that a main goal of ISCB is to promote the necessity of open access research and data sharing. "The research that was performed in the early stages in regards to COVID-19 is a prime example of why data sharing is so important to our research community."

ISCB expresses its sympathy with all those communities affected by the virus. We strongly encourage our community to continue to take the proper preventive measures (tips can be found here.). Access the ISCB COVID-19 Articles and Data Sharing Forum here.
