ISCB Africa ASBCB Conference on Bioinformatics 2017

TRAVEL FELLOWSHIPS


We are raising funds to provide travel fellowships for African students to attend the ISCB Africa ASBCB 2017 Conference on Bioinformatics.

The Aim is to bring African students together to introduce them to a variety of research projects in computational biology, increase their awareness of the broad range of opportunities that exist in the field, and introduce them to some of the people leading this research internationally. The conference provides a great opportunity for students as it is preceded by bioinformatics workshops.

Funding and Eligibility

  • Funding will support the registration, travel and accommodation of students. It will not cover visa fees, meals or subsistence.
  • The applicant must be a current member of ISCB and/or ASBCB.
  • Applicants need to have submitted a poster or paper for this conference; only accepted student poster and paper submitters will be eligible for funding (acceptance notification will be sent on the same day as the award notification)

Funding and Eligibility requirements for APCDR

  • Funding will support the registration, travel, entry visa fees and accommodation of students.
  • Applicants must be from an APCDR partner institution and be in a position to benefit from the conference and associated workshops.
  • Applicants will need to justify the use of bioinformatics on their current or prospective research projects.
  • Applicants will need to submit an abstract for a poster or oral presentation

Funding and Eligibility requirements for H3ABioNet

  • The applicant has an abstract accepted for an oral presentation
  • The applicant registers on the H3ABioNet travel fellowship application form
  • The applicant is a registered student or postdoctoral fellow at an African Institution
  • The applicant provides proof of acceptance for an oral presentation once this has been received from the conference
  • The applicant resides and works/studies in an African country

The H3ABioNet travel fellowship award will cover the following costs:

  • A return economy class air ticket from your country of location within Africa to Entebbe
  • Registration to attend the ASBCB conference
  • Accommodation for the nights of the 9th of October to the 12th of October 2017 .These dates may be extended to the 8th to the 13th of October if necessary to accommodate successful workshop applicants that are attending the ASBCB conference
  • Airport transfers within Entebbe

The H3ABioNet travel fellowship award will NOT cover the following costs:

  • The costs of any visa fees or vaccinations that might be required
  • Any meals or incidental costs not covered by the conference e.g. dinners or travel
  • Any cash stipends, honorariums or per diems
