Sequence analysis of the genome of Burkholderia pseuodomallei, K96243, a clinical isolate (sequenced by the Sanger Centre, U. Kingdom) by ARTEMIS identified FhaB and FhaC within an operon and they belong to the Two Partner Secretion (TPS) family. Analysis of FhaB N-terminus homologue revealed an NPNL motif recognised by FhaC to transport it into the external milieu. Phylogenetic analysis using the N-J method clusters the FhaC with the FhaC of Bordetella perstussis confirming its identity functionally. Cloning the FhaB and FhaC homologues would give a basis for the molecular characterization of the TPS family and an insight into its adhesion properties in Burkholderia pseudomallei.
