The essence of pombe
This is the cover image of the April 2012 issue of G3: Genes, Genomes and Genetics and it represents the first predicted interactome of the fission yeast, Schizosaccharomyces pombe. The network was predicted using maching learning and hundreds of protein and gene features. It is visualized using Cytoscape, where the nodes are colored according to the proteins' functional characterization terms. The network is superimposed on a microscopic image of a fission yeast cell where the nucleus has been replaced by a smaller version of the predicted network (See V. Pancaldi, Ö.S. Saraç, C. Rallis, J.R. McLean, M. Převorovský, K. Gould, A. Beyer, J. Bähler (2012) Predicting the fission yeast protein interaction network. G3 2(4), 453-467) /27981.png
