EasyGenomics – Next Generation Bioinformatics on the Cloud

Abstract

While the $1000 genome continues to be a thrilling race, effective big genomics data processing, mining, interpretation and management presents substantial scientific and technology challenges. And yet the life science industry always demands research findings toward fabricateable improvements in consumer healthcare products. This session will share BGI’s vision and strategy on EasyGenomics, a key enabling platform that provides efficient and undisruptive way to consume streamlined bioinformatics services for future research and applications.

Biography

Dr. Xu Xing is currently the Director of Cloud Computing Products at BGI, responsible for all aspects of “EasyGenomics”. "EasyGenomics" is the latest-generation cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) solution for scientists to easily access data-heavy omics-related research with rapid turnaround time, reliable results, real-time data monitoring, and a user-friendly interface. EasyGenomics integrates various popular next generation sequencing (NGS) analysis workflows including whole genome resequencing, exome resequencing, RNA-Seq, small RNA, de novo assembly, among others. Dr. Xu Xing received his B.S in Biochemistry at Peking University in Beijing (1997), China and went on to receive is M.S. in Molecular Biology and Biophysics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Biophysics in Beijing, China (2000). In 2008, he received his Ph.D. in Computational Biology at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. Before BGI, Xing Xu was the Senior Bioinformatics Scientist at Life Technologies.
