The application URL must be submitted by the presenting author only, and only if he or she meets the eligibility requirements noted below. If the submitting author is not the presenting author, it is the responsibility of the submitting author to forward the invitation to the presenting author if he or she meets the eligibility requirements. Each application URL can only be used one time and no application will be accepted after the deadline of <strong>Monday, April 12</strong>,<strong> 2010</strong>.<br /> <br />  </div> <div> <span style="font-weight: bold;">Eligibility Requirements</span></div> <div> 1. Applicant must be a current ISCB member whose membership does not expire prior to the last day of the conference. Applications will not be accepted from non-members; pending memberships do not qualify and must be paid in full prior to submission of an application.</div> <div> 2. Applicant must be listed as an author or co-author on the original submission of an accepted ISMB 2010 Paper, Poster (excluding accepted Late Posters), Highlights, or Late Breaking Research presentation, and, per the requirements of the funding agencies, the funded applicant must be the <span style="text-decoration: underline;">presenting</span> author of the work. (Submitters to the "Call for Late Posters" are not eligible for fellowship funding.)</div> <div> 3. Applicant must be registered in a degree program (undergraduate or graduate) or as a postdoctoral research fellow at an accredited educational institution at the time of the conference.</div> <div> 4. Applicant must be prepared to register for ISMB 2010 by the early registration deadline of May 28, 2010, and plan to attend the all 3 conference days (July 11-13). If attendance at the conference is dependent on receipt of travel fellowship funds, please do not register until after the notification of travel fellowship funding. Any funded applicant failing to register for the conference by the early registration deadline of May 28, 2010 will automatically forfeit the funds so that another applicant can be awarded from among the original pool of applicants.</div> <div> 5. Applicant must be able to pay all expenses of attending the conference up front, including conference registration fee (as noted in #4 above), travel, accommodations and meals. Travel Fellowship funding will be provided as a reimbursement approximately 4-6 weeks after the conference.<br /> <br />  </div> <div> <span style="font-weight: bold;">MARC Funding</span></div> <div> If you meet all of the eligibility requirements above AND are a US citizen or US permanent resident AND belong to a minority group recognized as underrepresented in the sciences by the NIH, please be aware that you qualify to apply for a Minority Access to Research Careers (MARC) travel award through the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB). These awards are meant to cover the full cost of attending the conference, and therefore we highly encourage all MARC eligible presenters to apply for these funds. For more information and to link to an application form, please see: <a href="http://marc.faseb.org/pages/page2a.htm">http://marc.faseb.org/pages/page2a.htm</a> and then click on <a href="http://marc.faseb.org/docs/PosterOral2009.doc" target="_blank">Poster/Platform (Oral) Presenter Travel Award</a> approximately midway down the page to access the MARC application form.</div> <div> Further, funding to ISMB 2010 will either be awarded through ISMB or through the MARC program, not both. However, because funding availability is very limited, an application to the MARC program is encouraged for all who meet the MARC eligibility criteria.<br /> <br />  </div> <div> <span style="font-weight: bold;">Eligible expenses</span></div> <div> Eligible expenses toward travel fellowship funds include conference registration, transportation (air or land transportation from home region to conference city), and a maximum of $400 USD of hotel room and occupancy tax charges. In order to receive the full awarded amount, receipts for registration, transportation and hotel accommodations are required that equal or exceed the awarded amount. Conference registration fee is reimbursable at the early registration pricing only; registration fees to attend pre-conference events such as SIGs and Tutorials are not reimbursable expenses.</div> <div> The maximum fellowship award is determined based on geographical location of applicant and upon submission of appropriate receipts. Please note that even funded applicants will not be able to cover all their expenses with these fellowship amounts. Thus all applicants must seek and secure additional funding sources (e.g., from your home institution/university, or grant funding). For 2010 maximum awards will be as follows:<br />  </div> <table border="0" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="0" width="540"> <tbody> <tr> <td align="left" bgcolor="#00a3e3" height="28" valign="top" width="526"> <strong>MAXIMUM FUNDS TO BE AWARDED PER REGION OF APPLICANT</strong></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left" valign="top"> <table border="0" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="0" style="width: 540px; height: 317px;"> <tbody> <tr> <td align="left" bgcolor="#ffffff" height="23" valign="bottom" width="197"> <span style="font-size: x-small;">Africa </span></td> <td align="left" bgcolor="#ffffff" valign="bottom" width="335"> <span style="font-size: x-small;">1500 USD</span></td> </tr> <tr bgcolor="#00a3e3"> <td align="left" bordercolor="#FFFFFF" colspan="2" height="14" valign="top">  </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left" height="23" valign="bottom"> <div> <span style="font-size: x-small;">Asia (excluding Middle East)</span></div> </td> <td align="left" height="23" valign="bottom"> <span style="font-size: x-small;">1200 USD</span></td> </tr> <tr bgcolor="#00a3e3"> <td align="left" bordercolor="#FFFFFF" colspan="2" height="14" valign="top">  </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left" height="23" valign="middle"> <div> <span style="font-size: x-small;">Canada (Ontario and East)<br /> </span></div> <div> <span style="font-size: x-small;">Canada (West of Ontario)</span></div> </td> <td align="left" height="23" valign="middle"> <p> <span style="font-size: x-small;">700 USD<br /> 850 USD</span></p> </td> </tr> <tr bgcolor="#00a3e3"> <td align="left" bordercolor="#FFFFFF" colspan="2" height="14" valign="top">  </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left" height="23" valign="bottom"> <div> <span style="font-size: x-small;">Europe</span></div> </td> <td align="left" height="23" valign="bottom"> <span style="font-size: x-small;">975 USD</span></td> </tr> <tr bgcolor="#00a3e3"> <td align="left" bordercolor="#FFFFFF" colspan="2" height="14" valign="top">  </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left" height="23" valign="bottom"> <span style="font-size: x-small;">Mexico / Central America / South America</span></td> <td align="left" height="23" valign="bottom"> <span style="font-size: x-small;">1150 USD</span></td> </tr> <tr bgcolor="#00a3e3"> <td align="left" bordercolor="#FFFFFF" colspan="2" height="14" valign="top">  </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left" height="23" valign="bottom"> <div> <span style="font-size: x-small;">Middle East </span></div> </td> <td align="left" height="23" valign="bottom"> <span style="font-size: x-small;">1100 USD</span></td> </tr> <tr bgcolor="#00a3e3"> <td align="left" bordercolor="#FFFFFF" colspan="2" height="14" valign="top">  </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left" height="23" valign="bottom"> <div> <span style="font-size: x-small;">Oceania</span></div> </td> <td align="left" height="23" valign="bottom"> <span style="font-size: x-small;">1550 USD</span></td> </tr> <tr bgcolor="#00a3e3"> <td align="left" bordercolor="#FFFFFF" colspan="2" height="14" valign="top">  </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left" height="23" valign="bottom"> <p> <span style="font-size: x-small;">USA  (East of Mississippi River)</span><span style="font-size: x-small;"><br /> USA  (West of Mississippi River)</span></p> </td> <td align="left" height="23" valign="bottom"> <p> <span style="font-size: x-small;">575 USD<br /> 650 USD</span></p> </td> </tr> </tbody> </table> </td> </tr> </tbody> </table> <div> <strong><br /> Notification</strong> <div> Applicants will be notified by May 21, 2010 of funding status. However, because funding availability is very limited, an application to the MARC program is encouraged for all who meet the MARC eligibility criteria.<br /> <br />  </div> <div> <span style="font-weight: bold;">Eligible expenses</span></div> <div> Eligible expenses toward travel fellowship funds include conference registration, transportation (air or land transportation from home region to conference city), and a maximum of $400 USD of hotel room and occupancy tax charges. In order to receive the full awarded amount, receipts for registration, transportation and hotel accommodations are required that equal or exceed the awarded amount. Conference registration fee is reimbursable at the early registration pricing only; registration fees to attend pre-conference events such as SIGs and Tutorials are not reimbursable expenses.</div> <div> The maximum fellowship award is determined based on geographical location of applicant and upon submission of appropriate receipts. Please note that even funded applicants will not be able to cover all their expenses with these fellowship amounts. Thus all applicants must seek and secure additional funding sources (e.g., from your home institution/university, or grant funding). For 2010 maximum awards will be as follows:<br />  </div> <table border="0" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="0" width="540"> <tbody> <tr> <td align="left" bgcolor="#00a3e3" height="28" valign="top" width="526"> <strong>MAXIMUM FUNDS TO BE AWARDED PER REGION OF APPLICANT</strong></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left" valign="top"> <table border="0" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="0" style="width: 540px; height: 317px;"> <tbody> <tr> <td align="left" bgcolor="#ffffff" height="23" valign="bottom" width="197"> <span style="font-size: x-small;">Africa </span></td> <td align="left" bgcolor="#ffffff" valign="bottom" width="335"> <span style="font-size: x-small;">1500 USD</span></td> </tr> <tr bgcolor="#00a3e3"> <td align="left" bordercolor="#FFFFFF" colspan="2" height="14" valign="top">  </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left" height="23" valign="bottom"> <div> <span style="font-size: x-small;">Asia (excluding Middle East)</span></div> </td> <td align="left" height="23" valign="bottom"> <span style="font-size: x-small;">1200 USD</span></td> </tr> <tr bgcolor="#00a3e3"> <td align="left" bordercolor="#FFFFFF" colspan="2" height="14" valign="top">  </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left" height="23" valign="middle"> <div> <span style="font-size: x-small;">Canada (Ontario and East)<br /> </span></div> <div> <span style="font-size: x-small;">Canada (West of Ontario)</span></div> </td> <td align="left" height="23" valign="middle"> <p> <span style="font-size: x-small;">700 USD<br /> 850 USD</span></p> </td> </tr> <tr bgcolor="#00a3e3"> <td align="left" bordercolor="#FFFFFF" colspan="2" height="14" valign="top">  </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left" height="23" valign="bottom"> <div> <span style="font-size: x-small;">Europe</span></div> </td> <td align="left" height="23" valign="bottom"> <span style="font-size: x-small;">975 USD</span></td> </tr> <tr bgcolor="#00a3e3"> <td align="left" bordercolor="#FFFFFF" colspan="2" height="14" valign="top">  </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left" height="23" valign="bottom"> <span style="font-size: x-small;">Mexico / Central America / South America</span></td> <td align="left" height="23" valign="bottom"> <span style="font-size: x-small;">1150 USD</span></td> </tr> <tr bgcolor="#00a3e3"> <td align="left" bordercolor="#FFFFFF" colspan="2" height="14" valign="top">  </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left" height="23" valign="bottom"> <div> <span style="font-size: x-small;">Middle East </span></div> </td> <td align="left" height="23" valign="bottom"> <span style="font-size: x-small;">1100 USD</span></td> </tr> <tr bgcolor="#00a3e3"> <td align="left" bordercolor="#FFFFFF" colspan="2" height="14" valign="top">  </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left" height="23" valign="bottom"> <div> <span style="font-size: x-small;">Oceania</span></div> </td> <td align="left" height="23" valign="bottom"> <span style="font-size: x-small;">1550 USD</span></td> </tr> <tr bgcolor="#00a3e3"> <td align="left" bordercolor="#FFFFFF" colspan="2" height="14" valign="top">  </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left" height="23" valign="bottom"> <p> <span style="font-size: x-small;">USA  (East of Mississippi River)</span><span style="font-size: x-small;"><br /> USA  (West of Mississippi River)</span></p> </td> <td align="left" height="23" valign="bottom"> <p> <span style="font-size: x-small;">575 USD<br /> 650 USD</span></p> </td> </tr> </tbody> </table> </td> </tr> </tbody> </table> <div> <strong><br /> Notification</strong> <div> Applicants will be notified by May 21, 2010 of funding status. In these fields we are constantly dealing with information in visual form: from microscope images and photographs of gels to scatter plots, network graphs and phylogenetic trees, structural formulae and protein models to flow diagrams, visual aids for problem-solving are omnipresent. Some of the works of the annual exhibitions at the ISMB conferences combine outstanding beauty and aesthetics with deep insight that perfectly proves the validity of our approach or goes beyond the problem's solution. Others were surprising and inspiring through the transition from science to art, opening our eyes and minds to reflect on the work that we are undertaking. <br /> <br /> For the ISMB 2010 Art & Science Exhibition the organizers invite all interested conference attendees (hereafter referred to as "artists") to submit such images and videos ("artworks") that have been generated as part of a research project. They are also soliciting images and videos resulting from creative efforts that involve scientific concepts or employ scientific tools and methods.</p> <p> Participate in this exciting event to surprise and inspire us, to open our eyes and minds.</p> <table border="0" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="0" class="schedule1" width="540"> <tbody> <tr> <td align="left" bgcolor="#00a3e3" class="title2" height="28" valign="top" width="526"> <span class="styleh1"><strong>Deadlines</strong></span></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left" height="144" valign="top"> <table border="0" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="0" width="540"> <tbody> <tr> <td align="left" bgcolor="#ffffff" class="normal1" height="23" valign="top" width="197"> <span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Monday November 23, 2009<br /> </span></td> <td align="left" bgcolor="#ffffff" class="normal1" valign="top" width="335"> <span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Call for Art & Science Exhibiton Opens</span></td> </tr> <tr bgcolor="#00a3e3"> <td align="left" bordercolor="#FFFFFF" class="normal1" colspan="2" height="14" valign="top">  </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left" class="normal1" height="23" valign="top"> <div> <span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Friday April 30, 2010<br /> </span></div> </td> <td align="left" height="23" valign="top"> <span style="style">Artwork Submission Deadline. Each artist may submit video or images for presentation in physical form and projection. The artist has to indicate during submission of images if the image is to be presented in physical form. If the artist submits multiple images for presentation in physical form there is no guarantee that all images will be displayed based on exhibition space. Space for physical presentation of images is limited and will be assigned on a first-come first-served basis.</p> <p> If you can not attend the conference but still have artworks to present on the Art & Science exhibition please contact artandscience@ismbconf.org for further information. </p> <p>  </p> <div class="subheading1 style1"> <strong>Content</strong></div> <p> The artwork may deal with any theme in science but the organizers are particularly interested in work that is reflecting on topics related to Computational and Molecular Biology. While artistic freedom is a primary concern of the organizers the nature of the event requires certain restrictions on the content of the artwork. Artwork that contains sexual, political or religious themes cannot be accepted into the exhibition and will be rejected. Works created for commercial purposes will also be rejected.</p> <p>  </p> <div class="subheading1 style1"> <strong>Materials</strong></div> <p> The final artwork has to be submitted for review before the deadline through the online submission system. Together with the artwork a brief description of the work has to be submitted as well as a title for the work. The description must not be longer than 150 words.</p> <p> Videos have to be in MPEG format only and no more than 4 minutes long. The file size of the video must not exceed 100 MB. It must be possible to decode videos with standard software. The maximum resolution for videos is 1024x768 pixels. Videos may include sound.</p> <p> Images to be presented in physical form must be smaller than 43 x 43 (109.2 cm x 109.2 cm). They must not be deeper than 0.5 (1.2 cm) and must be attachable to a poster board using velcro. The organizers recommend to leave a sufficiently wide border around the artwork and to carefully consider the size of photos and the amount of detail included in images. All images must be submitted in their final form and resolution. In case of images employing non-digital media a high-resolution digital photo of the artwork has to be submitted. Images can be submitted in PNG, JPEG, GIF, TIFF or PDF format. The file size must not exceed 25 MB. Artists whose images are accepted into the exhibition for presentation in physical form will have to bring the final images to the conference. For projection images will be scaled down to a resolution of 1024x768 pixels. The aspect ratio will be maintained. The organizers recommend keeping this in mind when designing images that are submitted for projection only.</p> <p> <a href="http://www.iscb.org/submissions/index.php?id=59">Online submission system</a></p> <div class="subheading1 style1"> <strong class="smhead2">Review</strong></div> <p> All submitted artwork will be reviewed for compliance with content restrictions as well as technical requirements.
