Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques hold promise to be able to facilitate bioinformatics education from the trainer's and learner's perspectives. For example, trainers may be able to use AI tools to generate or adapt content, to grade assignments more efficiently, provide feedback to students, identify trends and patterns in students' performance over time, etc. Learners may be able to use AI tools to generate code, to get assistance in debugging, to translate materials into their native language, etc (1). Capabilities in the field are changing rapidly, so it is difficult for trainers to stay abreast of available tools and how to best use them in their training programs.
Building upon the Bioinformatics Education Summit 2024 ‘AI in Training’ session where lists of AI tools and ideas for their use were collected, in this session we will experiment with implementing AI tools throughout the training spectrum from generating and adapting instructional content to improving learning and teaching learners how to use AI tools. Breakout groups will work on discrete aspects in setting up and conducting training such as using in generating instructional content, supporting IDEA principles in training and improving learning during training.
