Postdoc in Microbiome BioinformaticsSano Centre for Computational Medicine
Poland-Krakow
We’re looking for someone who lives and breathes biomolecular function and metabolic pathways. Your role will center on designing new computational tools to predict and interpret microbial gene and protein function from large-scale metagenomic and genomic data. You'll work on building scalable methods that move beyond existing tools, eg. HUMAnN or eggNOG-mapper, integrating structure, sequence context, and ontologies to make sense of the microbial dark matter. The ultimate goal is to uncover how microbial communities contribute to phenotype in the human gut, and to power functional, personalized microbiome models. This is a role at the intersection of bioinformatics, systems biology and AI.
Qualifications
Required background and skills of the candidate:
*recent or pending PhD (in bioinformatics, biological sciences, or related field), no more than 7 years of postdoctoral experience;
*an excellent understanding of biological function on a gene, protein and systems levels;
*good working understanding of metagenomics data;
*good understanding of different functional ontologies;
*experience in pipelines and tools used in metagenomics data processing;
*some experience in bioinformatics research;
*interest in metagenomics and microbiome research.
