The fourth conference on ’Quantitative Biology and Bioinformatics in Modern Medicine’ will take place at the Queen’s University Belfast, 19th and 20th September 2013. With the advent of high-throughput techniques we are nowadays in a position to measure many aspects of molecular and cell biology. This enables a quantitative approach to study not only basic biological processes but also biomedical and medical questions. However, due to the novelty of these types of data methods for their efficient analysis, integration and interpretation need to be developed to cope with this challenge. Another complication stems from the need for a functional analysis implying a systems approach. For this reason approaches utilizing molecular interactions, e.g., network-based methods, represent promising approachs for elucidating molecular information processing and ultimately pathogenesis of complex disorders. The conference aims to fostering quantitative research in Translational Bioinformatics comprising Computational Biology, Biomedical Informatics, Systems Biology and Network Medicine, with particular focus on disease-related problems like cancer, obesity or cardiovascular diseases. Topics Detection, Prediction and Characterizations of Complex Diseases Diagnostic and prognostic Biomarkers Next generation sequencing Integration of high-throughput Data Network Medicine of Complex Diseases Genotype-Phenotype Relations and Population Genomics Personalized Medicine Systems Biology and Molecular Networks Mechanisms of Cell Differentiation and Development Statistical Diagnostics Systems Pharmacogenomics Translational Bioinformatics Keynote Speakers: Robert Clarke, Biomedical Graduate Research Organization, Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center , Georgetown University Medical Center (USA). Lajos Pusztai, Yale Cancer Center Genetics and Genomics Program, Yale School of Medicine (USA). |
