| "This FASEB SRC will bring together scientists in academia and industry for live discussions on the most recent progresses in the field of lung epithelium biology. The epithelium of the lung allows airway flow and provides an essential barrier against infection and other detrimental exposures, which is made possible through highly orchestrated processes during development, homeostasis and repair. The goal of this meeting is to advance our understanding of these fundamental processes by providing a highly interactive platform for senior and junior scientists with expertises in biology, disease models and techniques. Topics of special interest in this FASEB meeting include airway development, stem cells and regeneration, cell-cell interactions that orchestrate injury responses and repair, and the impact of newest tools on lung biology research. Together, we believe we will gain insights into mechanisms of airway diseases that involve single gene, complex genetic interactions, and environmental impact. The knowledge will lay the foundation for the identification of new drug targets and the improvement of treatment strategies for devastating lung diseases, such as asthma, COPD, and cystic fibrosis. Trainees in both basic and clinical research laboratories are especially welcome to this meeting. Trainees will include graduate students, PhD and MD post-doctoral fellows, and research associates, as well as instructors and junior faculty who have mentored research funding. The meeting will provide many short talks, poster sessions, and travel awards dedicated to trainees and junior researchers. In addition, this meeting will facilitate interactions between junior researcher with leaders in these fields by organizing social events and Meeting-the-Expert sessions. This opportunity will ensure career development and help to foster new collaborations." |
