Description

Dear colleague,

We are organising a workshop on ‘Interpretability in Artificial Intelligence’ (https://www.birs.ca/events/2022/5-day-workshops/22w5055) at the Banff International Research Station (BIRS) in Alberta (Canada) from 5/1/2022 - 5/6/2022.

In recent years, deep learning has made astounding progress in many data-rich fields such as image analysis, speech recognition, automatic translation, etc. Its more recent application to computational biology has resulted in a plethora of highly accurate and sophisticated models for the analysis of human biomedical data. However, despite the excellent performance, deep learning behaves as a black-box and does not provide any insight into how a decision is made. In this workshop, we will explore recent developments in the field of Interpretable Artificial Intelligence that enable to open the black-box and gain biological new knowledge from complex data and models.

Participants of BIRS 5-day workshops are expected to arrive on Sunday afternoon or evening and to depart Friday midday. Accommodation and meals for this period are generously provided by Banff. Although we of course encourage your physical participation, due to the current sanitary situation, we might have the possibility of running a hybrid workshop allowing for both on-site and virtual participation. Therefore, in case you cannot attend physically, please, let us know if you would be interested in attending virtually.

We still have a few open spots and would be delighted to meet you at Banff. To register, please, send an email to mrm@zurich.ibm.com with a short statement of interest and the link to some relevant publications. Alternatively, you can also send your CV or link to your Google Scholar profile.

We would be grateful if you could forward this email to other colleagues who might be interested in participating. Junior colleagues and members of traditionally historically communities are especially welcome to participate.

Many thanks again for your continued interest and we are hoping to see you at Banff in 2022!
