Description

Viral Infections are a major global health problem. Infections such as AIDS, Hepatitis C, and influenza are hitting millions of people each year and causing much suffering, cost and, in many cases, lives. Today we are beginning to understand viral infections at the molecular level regarding the interplay between patient, virus, and drugs. As the picture gains detail, computer aided methods are becoming increasingly important, namely the collection of the growing amount of experimental data and derived knowledge in electronic databases, and the analyses of these data with bioinformatics methods. Combinations of such methods with clinical and virological expertise are now starting to enable researchers to build and validate predictive computational models for disease progression, drug treatment and development of resistance.

The workshop will offer:

- A number of invited talks by leading experts in the field
- A poster session on ongoing research
- A number of oral presentations of selected posters
- A panel discussion with audience participation on European networking in the field of bioinformatics applications to the study of viral infections.
