Workshop on Algebraic Statistics and Computational Biology | |
United States - MA - Cambridge |
|
Hosted by: | Clay Mathematics Institute |
Venue: | Clay Mathematics Institute, One Bow Street |
Dates: | Nov 12, 2005 through Nov 14, 2005 |
Early Registration Deadline: | 2005-09-15 |
Description |
|
Algebraic Statistics is a new field in which ideas, combinatorics, geometry of polytopes, computational algebra and algebraic geometry contribute to the formulation, interpretation, and solution of statistical problems. Many of the motivating problems in algebraic statistics arise from problems in computational biology: sequence analysis and reconstruction of phylogenetic trees from sequence data, to name two. The workshop will introduce participants to these new methods, present recent work in the field, and discuss future directions of research. |
