Description

Submission Deadline Extended!!

Scientific research is becoming increasingly data-rich. This is especially true in the biomedical sciences where the tools of modern molecular biology produce vast amounts of data every day. Supported by the advent of powerful computing hardware, bioinformatics is an emerging, rapidly-expanding scientific discipline that addresses problems related to the storage, retrieval and analysis of data describing the structure and function of biological systems. This type of information is of particular importance in that it can lead to the discovery of knowledge that can help us understand and deal with life and nature. With the exponential growth in this data, there is a growing need for information technology (IT) specialists to participate in the development of computational tools for data management and analysis. This workshop will provide an excellent dissemination vehicle for the research activities of IT specialists and computational scientists involved in bioinformatics.

We invite papers on IT aspects of bioinformatics. This includes, but is not limited to, the development of bioinformatics algorithms using advanced computational, mathematical and statistical methods (such as graph theory, Bayesian networks and machine learning), effective use of novel computational approaches and environments (such as computer clusters and grid computing) and utilization of advanced IT techniques (such as data warehousing and visualization) to address bioinformatics-related problems. An expanded list of topics can be found on the Workshop page of the ICCS 2007 website (http://www.iccs-meeting.org/iccs2007/workshop-list.php#ws11). Papers may be on fundamental methodological research, on experimental and implementation issues and/or on the application of existing methods and programs that lead to discoveries of biological significance.

Your submitted paper must be camera-ready and formatted according to the rules of LNCS (http://www.springer.com/east/home/computer/lncs?SGWID=5-164-7-72376-0). PostScript (or PDF) and source (e.g., Microsoft Word) versions of your paper should be submitted electronically through the paper submission system (http://www.iccs-meeting.org/iccs2007/papers/). Papers must not exceed eight pages in length when typeset using the LNCS format. (A paper without figures can be around 4,500 words.) Submission implies the willingness of at least one of the authors to register and present the paper.
