Description

2007 MLBB Call For Paper

Background

The dramatic growth of medical and biological data has created an unprecedented opportunity for machine learning in the pattern recognition and machine learning community. Many medical and biological problems involve challenging approaches to pattern discovery and learning. Increasingly, intelligent systems have been designed to solve problems in biology and medicine. This workshop is devoted to introducing new machine learning problems and attracting newly developed machine learning methods in biomedicine and bioinformatics. The goal of the workshop is to foster new research collaborations between the biomedicine/bioinformatics community and the machine learning community.

Topics

We encourage the submissions of papers on novel machine learning approaches in the biomedicine and bioinformatics domains, and machine learning methods for general applications including (but not limited to):

-Biomedical decision support systems
-Expert systems
-Medical informatics
-Medical (business/financial) intelligence
-Patient (customer) relationship management
-Electronic medical record (EMR) data mining
-Bioimage mining
-Text mining
-Disease/cancer classification
-Microarray data analysis
-Protein structure prediction and protein fold recognition
-Protein interaction and function prediction
-Motif discovery
-Prediction of sub-cellular localization for proteins
-Sequence analysis and alignment
-Protein interactions and molecular networks

Audience

-Medical informaticians
-Bioinformaticians
-Computer scientists
-Electrical engineers
-Statisticians
-Molecular biologists
-Other researchers and developers

Important Dates
Submission deadline: June 15, 2007
Notification of acceptance: September 1, 2007
Final papers due: October 1, 2007
Workshop: December 13-15, 2007

Submissions
Papers submitted for this workshop should be submitted by June 15, 2007, at the regular paper submission website (http://www.cs.csubak.edu/~icmla/icmla07/). Papers should not exceed a maximum of 6 pages (including abstract, body, tables, figures, and references), and should be submitted as a pdf in 2-column IEEE format. LaTeX document class files for 2-column format can be found on the IEEE Author Tools web page here.

Proceedings

Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings, as a hardcopy. All accepted papers must be presented by one of the authors to be published in the conference proceedings.

A selected number of accepted papers will be invited for publication, in an expanded and revised form, in a special issue of International Journal of Data Mining and Bioinformatics.
