How do we currently find disease genes? The course will cover several widely used approaches both in theory and in practical sessions using real datasets where possible. Topics covered will include: Basic Genetics; Pedigree likelihoods; Map building; Parametric Linkage Analysis; Non-parametric Linkage Analysis; Association Analysis; The HapMap Project; Visualizing LD; Haplotype Estimation; The effects of population structure on association studies Students will be introduced to a range of software: CRIMAP, GENEHUNTER, MERLIN, R PHASE, STRUCTURE, STRAT. |
