Bacherlor's Degree in Bioinformatics

Bioinformatics is the application of information technologies and computer sciences in the biomedical context with the objective of studying, analising and processing genetic, molecular and clinicak information to generate new knowledge, new diagnostic tools and new therapies.

The academic discipline is currently divided into the following areas of specialisation: genomics, chemoinformatics and pharmaceutical design, proteomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics, molecular phylogenetics amongst others.

At the end of the degree, the students must be able to:
- Design and construction of biological databases for use by the scientific community
- Collaboration in the creation of personalised medicines through the compilation of biochemical and genetic data of thousands of individuals
- Research into new pharmaceuticals and optimisation of current pharmaceuticals
- Collaboration in the design of personalised therapies
- Creation of computer-based tools for the analysis and prediction of viral patterns
- Development of algorhythms for the analysis and prediction of target cells and target cell-ligand couplings
- Administer experimental data and improve clinical data adquisition systems for regulating agencies
