Updated May 13, 2015.

The RSG will be hosting a variety of events at GLBIO 2015.  See below for more details!

FASEB CAREER DAY at GLBIO 2015The Great Lakes Bioinformatics Consortium is pleased to announce a day with Dr. Philip Clifford, PhD. Philip Clifford is Associate Dean for Research and Professor of Kinesiology and Nutrition at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). Prior to joining the faculty at UIC, Dr. Clifford was employed with the Medical College of Wisconsin where he served as Associate Dean of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Professor of Anesthesiology and Physiology. His research efforts have been aimed at elucidating the physiological mechanisms regulating skeletal muscle blood flow during exercise and his laboratory has been funded by the NIH, the American Heart Association and the Department of Veterans Affairs. He is a fellow of the American Heart Association, the American College of Sports Medicine, and the American Physiological Society Cardiovascular Section.
He participates on grant review panels at the NIH, NASA, and the American Heart Association and sits on the editorial boards of several physiological journals. He is also a consultant in the medical device industry and a member of the Anesthesia and Respiratory Devices Panel at the FDA. Dr. Clifford is recognized nationally for championing career and professional development for PhD scientists. He is a co-author of the widely acclaimed career website, myIDP.sciencecareers.org and a frequent speaker at seminars, workshops, and symposia on career issues for PhD scientists. In 2012, he was awarded the National Postdoctoral Association's Distinguished Service Award and was a part of the team that received the Association of American Medical College's Innovative Institutional Partnerships Award in 2013.

Dr. Clifford will be speaking at GLBIO on Monday morning, May 18 and then will take student appointments on Monday afternoon.
Talk: 10:00am – 11:30am, Room 202

Student Speed Networking Event
Tuesday, May 19, 7:30-9:30pm, Purdue Memorial Union Building, Anniversary Drawing Room.

Session information:  Have you ever wanted to talk to other students at a conference but weren't sure how to approach them? Would you like to be working with more collaborators but you don't know how to get started? Or maybe you just want to have more people to share ideas with after a talk?

The Great Lakes Student Council is hosting "scientific speed event" on Tuesday night for students to meet in a fun, informal setting. This event is similar to the regular speed dating, but with one twist: participants talk about their research interests, rather than personal interests. You'll be able to learn about other students and their research through random pairings and three minute "dates." When time's up, you'll move to the next "partner" in the line. At the end, the floor will open up for a relaxed mixer with free refreshments. Think you can summarize your work in 3 minutes? Let's find out!
