ISCB takes its environmental responsibilities seriously. The Society’s environmental sustainability policy can be found here.
The Green ISCB Committee
The Green ISCB Committee was formed to discuss and address the broad range of environmental issues. Its remit covers the following areas:
- Raising awareness of environmental issues among our members
- Measuring and monitoring the environmental impact of society activities, and where possible reducing the carbon footprint of the society
- Lobbying for action within and outside of the ISCB to reduce the environmental impacts of computational biology.
- Providing guidelines and recommendations for sustainability in science

Sustainability at ISCB Conferences
The Society’s conferences are a large source of environmental impact. Both through the means of travel used by conference attendees as well as the hosting of the physical meeting. Significant efforts have been made over the last years to measure and reduce the impact of the conferences. The sustainability efforts of ISCB conferences can be found here.
The ISCB Grove
The ISCB grove was set up in 2020, in collaboration with All Things Small and Green and Trees for Life to provide a route for members to offset their carbon emissions. We invite you to contribute here.
Take the Green Pledge
ISCB encourages all members of our community to take the Green Pledge as part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability in science. Whether you're attending a conference or making choices in your day-to-day work, small actions can lead to big change. Sign the pledge to show your support for environmentally conscious practices at ISCB events and beyond.
