The immune system protects organisms from pathogens. It is characterized by functional heterogeneity at the molecular and cellular levels and operates across time scales. Both innate and adaptive branches of immunity consist of a continuum of cellular phenotypes driven by a complex network of intracellular regulators and extracellular signaling molecules. Immune cells interact with each other and with other cell types across tissues and organs. Adaptive immunity is further characterized by diversity of receptor repertoires enabling heterogeneity of specificities and responses.
Novel high-throughput technologies, such as sequencing, genomic, epigenomic, proteomic, genome editing, spatial, and imaging technologies, are increasingly being adopted to generate massive amounts of data for studies of fundamental features of the immune system in health and disease. However, computational processing, analysis, integration, interpretation of such data presents major challenges. This includes computational problems specific for immunological studies, as well as general ones, but in application to the domain of immunology.
In this special session, we will discuss computational methods that address challenges typical in analysis of multi-dimensional data in immunology, as well as data-driven studies leading to exciting new fundamental and translational discoveries.

The Special Session on Digital Agriculture will highlight the latest advances in the field at the intersection with computational biology. This includes basic and applied research, from cellular pathways and genetics to AI and machine learning to biotechnology. As such topics relevant for this Special Session include, but are not restricted to, genetics and genomics of agriculturally relevant species; plant and animal phenomics; AI/machine learning; image analysis; remote sensing; educational innovations; discoveries resulting from public-private partnerships; data sharing and FAIR data standards; biotechnology; and soil sciences. This Session will include scientific research talks as well as panel discussions and introductory presentations on relevant, nationwide collaborative projects.

This is the third and final edition of a series of sessions on the pandemic that started at ISMB 2020. The session will feature talks that provide insight into the knowledge on the pandemic and the virus causing it that we have gained with strong support of bioinformatics and computational biology and open the topic up to perspectives regarding possible future pandemics.
