Lunch and Learn Workshop

ISMB/ECCB introduces Lunch and Learn Workshops. These luncheon events are hosted by select conference sponsors - the workshops are 75 minutes in length and include a hosted lunch. Participants must pre-register with the workshop hosts. Instructions are included below on how to participate.

Enriching protein interaction networks with transcription factor-gene interactions using TRANSFAC®: added value for targeted network analysis

Date: Monday, July 22       12:45 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.        Room:  ICC Lounge 81

Presented By:

Presenter: Bianca Habermann, Bioinformatics GL & IT Leader, Max Planck Institute for Biology of Aging, Germany

Protein interaction or genetic networks are a popular means for integrating data from large-scale studies. By overlaying for instance expression values from an expression screen on a protein interaction network, one can define a ‘disease’ or ‘state’ network, look for possible connections of differentially regulated genes to molecular pathways or ask more in-depth questions on the possible connections between two or more nodes. Biological networks that are however solely build on protein-protein or genetic interactions, or on metabolic reactions essentially lack information on the regulation of gene expression. Results coming from those networks are therefore often restricted. We address this problem by enriching protein-protein interaction networks with TRANSFAC® data on transcription factor-gene interactions. Using the virtual Pathway Explorer, viPEr that was developed in our lab, we can show that these enriched networks serve as a superior basis for the generation of focus networks and the integration of pathway information in high-throughput data analysis.

Sequencing in the Cloud Era with Illumina BaseSpace® Bioinformatics Platform

Date: Monday, July 22       12:45 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.        Room:  ICC Berlin, Hall 9

Presented By:

Raymond Tecotzky, Manager, Product Marketing, BaseSpace, Illumina Inc.

Genomics research promises to revolutionize public and human health. Yet, extracting meaningful information from an enormous collection of sequence data is at risk without the development of new and scalable bioinformatics approaches.  Illumina’s genomics cloud platform delivers a suite of industry-leading analysis tools, ensures secure data storage, and simplifies collaboration with integrated, push-button sharing options.  Learn how BaseSpace has become a valuable platform for bioinformatics developers, and how rapid data access enables new genomics research.

This lunch and learn workshop is by invitation only to attendees of the meeting. If you are interested and have not received an email invitation to register please contact Andrea Misiner at This email address is being protected from spambots.
