Orienteering Results

Dear orienteering participants,

Thank you for coming, to tackle an NP-complete ("Prize-Collectiong Traveling Salesman Problem") on your feet! We were lucky to have such good weather, as well as the beautiful historical Old Town to play in.

If you are interested in doing some more orienteering while you are here, you are in luck! An orienteering event will be held on each of 3 consecutive evenings (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, July 30-August 2) in the forest on the southeastern side of Stockholm, accessible by subway. Registration begins at 5:00 p.m.; starts are between 5:30 pm and 7:30 p.m. To get there, take subway #17 toward Skarpnack, and get off at the Bjorkhagen stop. The walk to the event is 400 meters, and it is marked. The event is taking place near the Markuskyrkan church. Tell them you are a beginner (if you are), and ask for any help that you might need to understand what to do. For more information, email barb.bryant@gmail.com

Results are posted here.

Some photos are here.

Congratulations to the two Estonian teams who took 1st and 2nd place, separated by only 6 seconds!

We are grateful to the EIF orienteering club of Stockholm, and particularly to Stockholm resident and EIF member Leif Lundquist, who set the course, wrote up the historical descriptions, printed the maps, hung the controls and ran the event!

For those who missed the event, we are sorry that we are unable to give refunds as we have to cover the cost of printing the maps, providing the refreshments, and obtaining the services of the orienteering club.

Thank you,

Barbara Bryant
