The First International Workshop on Virtual Tissues will be held at the US Environmental Protection Agency campus in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina from April 21 to April 22, 2009. The workshop will feature presentations by European Union and United States experts from academia, government and industry on modeling disease pathogenesis across physiologic levels. The meeting has a translational focus on key biological and computational challenges in applying virtual tissues for modeling chemical-induced toxicity. In addition, relevant synergies/gaps between ongoing EC/US projects will be discussed to highlight opportunities for collaboration on: 1. Target organs: development, liver, lung, immune response 2. Specialized data requirements 3. Cross-scale model representation and quantitative dose-response simulation The workshop is open to scientists in academia, industry and government, as well as graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. There is no conference fee but seats are limited and registration is required. The detailed agenda and list speakers will be available in March 2009.
