Description

The immune system plays a critical role in the response to pathogenic organisms. The interactions between pathogen and host involve complex molecular and cellular interactions that result in either survival of the host or pathogen. A better understanding of these interactions is important for design of future therapies and vaccines. The response of the host occurs over multiple temporal and spatial scales, and events at the genetic level can influence events at the cellular level and finally manifest at the population scale. Systems biology and mathematical modeling provide the tools necessary to examine events at the different scales. The challenge for the future will be to develop tools that link models reflecting these different scales.

We have invited an exciting group of speakers to share their research in modeling host pathogen interactions at a symposium at the University of Pittsburgh on June 23-25 2009. We hope to cover aspects of modeling at the levels of the molecule, cell and organism and to generate discussion on how beat to develop links between these levels.

We invite you, as someone interested in immunology, systems biology, or computational approaches to join us.
