Description |
|
The First International Workshop on Biomedical Data Engineering will be held in Tokyo in conjunction with IEEE International Conference on Data Engineering 2005. Modern electronic computers were invented around 1945, and DNA double helix was found in 1953. 21st century is the century to integrate both areas to understand the mystery of life. The workshop focuses on data engineering aspects of life science and medical data, or such related areas as image processing, pattern recognition, and so on. One of its goals is to facilitate collaboration between researchers and engineers in Data Engineering field and the ones in bioinformatics and medical fields. Papers on, but not limited to, the following topics are solicited. * Bioinformatics * Biomedical Literature Mining * Data Mining * DB Migration * DB Integration * Digital Human DB * Graph Data Analysis * High Performance Computing * Human Body Simulation * Image Analysis * Image Databases * Indexing and Retrieval Techniques * Medical Databases * Medical Image Diagnostic * Pattern Recognition * Visualization Submission Guideline: Full paper up to 12 pages should be submitted electronically in PDF or PS. The submitted paper should be single-spaced with font size at least 11 points. The papers will be refereed by the PC committee members and judged on originality, significance, correctness, and clarity. The camera-ready manuscript must use the IEEE CS format. (See IEEE CS format http://www.computer.org/cspress/instruct.htm). Publication: An informal proceedings will be available on-site during the workshop. The formal post-workshop electronic proceedings will be published by IEEE Computer Society Press. Papers are included in the formal post-workshop proceedings only if at least one of the authors attend the workshop and present the paper. Best papers selected from the accepted papers will be published in a special issue of International Journal of Bioinformatics Research and Applications Important Dates: Paper Submission November 15, 2004 Notification Date January 1, 2005 Camera ready due February 4, 2005 Organization Workshop chair Shunsuke UEMURA, NAIST Program co-chairs Akifumi MAKINOUCHI, Kyushu University Mohammed ZAKI, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Program committee Abdelghani BELLAACHIA, George Washington University Ambuj K.
