Develop your career by training in Systems Biology

The Center for Complex Biological Systems of the University of California Irvine is excited to announce the second iteration of two courses designed to introduce the exciting young field of Systems Biology to trainees and researchers from diverse disciplines, including biology, medicine, mathematics, engineering, physics, and computer science. The courses are three weeks long, run concurrently, and take place on the beautiful UCI Campus in Southern California.

The first course, "Systems Biology, A Foundation for Interdisciplinary Careers", provides a broad introduction to Systems Biology, from modeling to experimental methods, to big data analysis. Participants also learn about the challenges of interdisciplinary research, get experience as members of interdisciplinary teams, and receive individualized mentoring by UCI faculty for up to two years after the course.

The second course, "Cancer Systems Biology", focuses specifically on research topics at the intersection of Cancer Biology and Systems Biology. Topics range from quantitative theories of carcinogenesis to the application of single-cell genomic methods in the analysis of tumors.
Both courses begin with one week of cross-training, in which participants with biology backgrounds get instruction and practice in relevant mathematics and computation, while participants with theoretical or computational backgrounds get hands-on training in laboratory work.

Diverse, minority or disabled applicants are strongly encouraged to apply and are eligible for financial support to cover course expenses, travel, and lodging, potentially up to the full amount.
