Focus: Bioinformatics
Target audience education / assumed knowledge: None
Educational certification/accreditation status: None
Professional certification/accreditation status: None
Degree Offered: Certificate in Applied Bioinformatics (3-6 mths)

Key characteristics of program:
Perl 201 is an advanced level course covering the tools and techniques that are currently used in the Bioinformatics industry or in a typical high-throughput sequencing center. During the course students will be required to read and analyze scientific papers on Bioinformatics and Genomics and complete assignments in Genomics and programming. 201 covers the basic aspects of Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics and Genomics and students will therefore get ample opportunity to understand the biology behind Bioinformatics during the course of the training. Students can choose to take modules based on their background and current skills and drop those that they already have prior experience or training in. The entire course can be completed in a self-paced manner in 6-8 months.
Program Goals:
Students will get exposure to standard bioinformatics tools and techniques that can be applied to such diverse tasks as genome annotation, comparative genomics, new target identification for drug discovery and so on. Topics covered include - Perl/BioPerl programming for sequence analysis and database applications, sequence analysis with web-based tools, etc.
