Key characteristics of program:

This program requires foundational coursework in biology, chemistry, computer science and mathematics. Upper level electives offer students the ability to focus their studies in biology or computer science. Students are broadly educated in the liberal arts in keeping with the Jesuit philosophy of education.

Program Goals:

The program has four primary goals for its students. Graduates of the program will possess knowledge and skills in bioinformatics that will enable them to pursue fruitful careers or advanced studies in bioinformatics; graduates will exhibit professional competence and integrity; graduates will have the capability to adapt to new technologies in the field of bioinformatics and will possess an excellent understanding of the computational techniques that underlie current technologies; and graduates will be broadly educated in the supporting academic disciplines that contribute to bioinformatics by developing a solid foundation in the principles of computing and biology with additional coursework in mathematics, chemistry, and advanced courses in computing and biology.
