Focus: Bioinformatics
Recommended Undergraduate Degrees: None
Degree Offered: BS/BSc/BA/B.Eng (< 1 year)BS/BSc/BA/B.Eng (Major/Primary Degree)

Key characteristics of program:

Bioinformatics is an emerging field with applications to both basic and applied biological sciences and has been rapidly growing in the past ten years. Those trained in bioinformatics can find increasing employment opportunities in the academic and commercial research sectors as well as in healthcare institutions. Increased emphasis on the analysis of genetic information and personalized medicine are driving the need for scientists trained in biological data management and analysis. The Bioinformatics Program at Rowan can help students reach their career goals in basic biological research as well as the medical, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology industries. The program will also provide advanced training to the students opting for graduate programs (Ph.D.). In addition, this program also provides sufficient foundation in biology, biochemistry and computer science to allow the students the flexibility to pursue other career plans.

Program Goals:

We have designed a BS Bioinformatics program unlike others in the region. The proposed program emphasizes a broad yet deep training in the scientific method, its use in the study of biological and physical systems, and the applications of computer science to current problems in basic and applied biology.
