Key characteristics of program:

This program in Bioinformatics is suitable for students with a bachelor degree in Computer Science, Biology, Chemistry, Maths and related disciplines. It has two learning itineraries, one for providing Life Sciences graduates with background on programming, databases and management of computing systems, and one for providing Computer Science graduates with background on Life Sciences. Then, a series of modules related with research, biostatistics, entrepreneurship, bioinformatics technologies and bioinformatics problems and solutions will be taught. The program ends with a Master thesis which can be done in the research groups, institutions and companies collaborating with the program. Students on the programme will also be required to attend a relevant seminars and events organized by the collaborating bodies.

Program Goals:

Graduates of the programme are expected to have a broad understanding of the field of bioinformatics and a high level of understanding of relevant bioinformatics areas. They will have developed critical reading of scientific research papers and will have demonstrated skill in scientific communication. Graduates will have developed basic programming and data management skills and will be able to apply these skills to biological data in a meaningful way. They will have become familiar with the research methodologies that are applied in the field and will be equipped with the basic skills, insights and experience to enable them to begin a successful research carreer.
