MSc Bioinformatics

University/Institute: Rouen Normandie University, Rouen France (RNU)
Location: France - ROUEN
Focus: Bioinformatics
Recommended Undergraduate Degrees: Biology, Computer Science, Math/Statistics
Degree Offered: MS/MSc/MA/M.Eng (< 1 year)MS/MSc/MA/M.Eng (Major/Primary Degree)

Key characteristics of program:

This program is an up to date complete multidisciplinary program that provides the relevant multi-skills necessary for genome biology and other omics sciences: it combines coursework in (i) bioinformatics/computational biology with skill-building courses in computer programming,(ii) statistics for genomics, and (iii) biology : omics sciences. The duration is 3 years :
MSc 1 (60 ECTS,European Credit transfer and Accumaltion System) is a one year dedicated to fondamental courses of omics sciences and first skills in programming ( scripting, R, data base) , it includes 4 months training in a bioinformatics lab. MSc 2 is a two years (60 ECTS) sandwich course with a salary. It combines theory (800hrs of teaching) and a long practicum for the development of practical skills in bioinformatics. The MSc Bioinformatics of Rouen Normandie was established in 1999 and has strong academic / industrial cooperation especially in the French National Network of Genopole. Our graduating students obtained jobs as engineers in Bioinformatics or in Biostatistics in France, Europe, Canada, USA. French is the official language of the Masters program. As the program is both fondamental and technological oriented our students can also prepare a PhD after their master.

Program Goals:

Conception and programmation of new tools for bioinformatics or biostatistics:

- computer programming languages ;
- application of computational algorithms to resolving biological problems ;
- database creation and bioinformation mining;
- data sciences
- applications of biostatistical and mathematical methods to omics sciences
