Key characteristics of program:

This program combines coursework in biomedical, bioinformatics, and biostatistics with exposure to a variety of rotations in wet or dry labs. After your first year, as a student in the GDS MTA, you are required to take BSR 4401 (Journal Club in Genetics and Data Science), BSR 5401 (Seminars in Genetics and Data Science), and BSR 5402 (Works in Progress: Genetics and Data Science), in addition to at least 3 elective credits selected from GDS focused courses. Another 3 elective credits may be selected from any course offered at in the GSBS at ISMMS. ISMMS also partners with the CUNY Graduate Center, CUNY Grove School of Engineering, and Cooper Union allowing student to take relevant mathematics and computer science courses. With Departmental approval, and if directly relevant to your research, you can also elect to take courses offered at other institutions in the New York area that will count towards your required elective credits.

Program Goals:

Graduates will have developed skills in performing independent research, programming, and data management and will be able to apply these skills to biomedical data in a meaningful way. Graduates of the program are expected to have a deep understanding in the fields of bioinformatics, data sciences, and genetics. They will have developed critical reading of scientific research papers and will have demonstrated skill in scientific communication.
