Master of Science in Bioinformatics

University/Institute: Brandeis University
Location: United States - Online
Focus: Bioinformatics
Recommended Undergraduate Degrees: Biology, Chemistry, Other: Criteria includes undergraduate coursework in molecular biology,
Degree Offered: MS/MSc/MA/M.Eng (< 1 year)MS/MSc/MA/M.Eng (Major/Primary Degree)

Key characteristics of program:

Biotechnology and pharmaceutical organizations are increasingly viewing bioinformatics as an integral part of their research processes. As biomedical industries seek to make use of vast amounts of genomic data and produce more complex and accurate biological models, they are relying more and more on bioinformatics’ mathematical, statistical and computational methods.

ISCB members are eligible to receive a 15% per course tuition discount on Brandeis University’s online Master of Science in Bioinformatics. Designed for working professionals looking to advance their careers along with their educational goals, our online MS in Bioinformatics stands apart because it equips students to:

• Process and clean, store, analyze and model large volumes of biological data from multiple sources.
• Independently and collaboratively provide insights into complex biological systems through data synthesis, experimental design, and application of a wide range of computational biology approaches.
• Effectively communicate and present bioinformatics concepts to multidisciplinary project teams.

The 30-credit program has six required courses and four electives.

Program Goals:

Graduates of our MS in Bioinformatics program should feel equipped to engage in productive bioinformatic research and effectively communicate research projects and findings to multidisciplinary project teams.

Program outcomes:

• Process and clean, store, analyze and model large volumes of biological data from multiple sources.
• Independently and collaboratively provide insights into complex biological systems through data synthesis, experimental design, and application of a wide range of computational biology approaches.
• Effectively communicate and present bioinformatics concepts to multidisciplinary project teams.
