"The focus area ""computational molecular biology"" provides intensive and advanced algorithmic training towards developing novel bioinformatics approaches. Graduation requires at least 180 credit points. Basic courses offered are: Mathematics for Computer
Scientists I, Mathematics for Computer Scientists II, Mathematics for Computer Scientists III, Analysis I, Linear Algebra I, Programming I, Programming II, Basics in Theoretical Informatics, Introduction
to Data Structures and Algorithms, General Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry. Core courses offered are Introduction to Bioinformatics,
Bioinformatics I, Bioinformatics II, Bioinformatics III, Computational Chemistry, Special Lectures in Bioinformatics,Biopharmacy and Drug Delivery, Biophysics, Biotechnology, Introduction to Genetics, Medical Chemistry and Drug Design, Molecular Microbiology. The students participate in obligatory practical training courses on software design and biology. Proseminars and advanced lectures (topics by choice) deepen the students' learning skills and their understanding of scientific reasoning. Students are actively involved in the research of the departments and the research institutes on campus (Max Planck Institute for Computer Science, German Research Center for
Artificial Intelligence) during the required bachelor thesis."
