Master's Program in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology

University/Institute: Saint Louis University (SLU)
Location: United States - St. Louis
Focus: Bioinformatics
Recommended Undergraduate Degrees: Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Math/Statistics
Degree Offered: MS/MSc/MA/M.Eng (2 years)MS/MSc/MA/M.Eng (Major/Primary Degree)

Key characteristics of program:

Our program utilizes interdisciplinary approaches to solve computationally intensive problems in the life sciences. Our diverse faculty work hands-on with students to prepare them for careers in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, health-care and software industries.
Biological research has been revolutionized by “Big Data.” Our students use state-of-the-art computational approaches and computing systems to analyze genome, proteome and transcriptome data sets. Our program requires and internship and our St. Louis location allows us to draw on the local biotech industry, home to more than 350 plant and life science enterprises, for internships. This local industry also provides significant employment opportunities for our graduates.

Program Goals:

Our interdisciplinary curriculum prepares our students to become part of multi-disciplinary teams in the biotech industry, government or academia. This degree is also excellent preparation for continuing on to Ph.D. studies in systems biology, genomics or precision medicine.
