Key characteristics of program:

Students pursuing the BS in bioinformatics must complete courses in biology, chemistry, computer science, and mathematics and statistics. In addition students are required to gain hands-on-experience, be it as part of an internship or hypothesis driven research.

Program Goals:

Graduates from Loyola’s BS Bioinformatics Program will:
1. Acquire technical skills at the interface of biology, computer science, chemistry and mathematics
2. Learn biological and chemical laboratory techniques
3. Develop computer programming capabilities
4. Use mathematical and statistical techniques to analyze results from laboratory experiments and computer outputs
5. Understand key problems, proposed solutions and future challenges of the bioinformatics field
6. Demonstrate effective and ethical decision-making abilities in facing issues relating to human health and animal treatment
