Key characteristics of program:
This program gives the student a comprehensive foundation in the major fields that support bioinformatics, including mathematics, statistics, computer science, biochemistry and genetics. It thus provides the student with the essential tools to feel comfortable working in the inter-disciplinary field of bioinformatics. Students who graduate from this inter-disciplinary degree program may proceed with a BSc Hons in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, which, in turn, leads to an MSc and PhD in the field. |
Program Goals:
This inter-disciplinary degree program is aimed to provide comprehensive training in the major fields that constitute the field of Bioinformatics. Students follow a syllabus that includes training in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Biochemistry, Genetics and Bioinformatics. This provides students with a good understanding of calculus and linear algebra, probability and statistics, algorithms and coding and cellular biochemistry and genetics. Students are trained in critical thought, scientific method, and combining knowledge from more than one field to solve questions in biology. |
