The Nomination Period for Board of Directors is coming to a close!
The International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB) is encouraging members to submit nominations for the Society's Board of Directors. Nominations are submitted at www.iscb.org/nominate (you must login to your membership record to access the nomination form). In all cases, self-nominations will not be accepted.
If you know of excellent candidates that meet the eligibility requirements below, please be sure to submit your nomination(s). Details of the positions, procedures and timeline are available on the ISCB website at: www.iscb.org/leadership-nominations-and-elections.
Nominations for Board of Directors will be accepted through April 12, 2013.
Nominations for Society Officers and Student Council Leaders will be accepted through June 9, 2013.
In order to be eligible to be a Director candidate, a person must be an ISCB member in good standing, and must pledge to make every reasonable effort to attend the bi-monthly Board of Director teleconference meetings, and, at their own expense, the face-to-face Annual Board Meeting held in conjunction with the ISMB conference.
We are looking forward to an active participation by the ISCB membership in the nominations and election process, and we thank you in advance for your qualified nominations.
Respectfully,
Scott Markel and Anna Tramontano

Dear ISCB Members, Colleagues, and Past GLBIO Attendees:
The Great Lakes Bioinformatics Conference is ISCB's annual event focused on providing an interdisciplinary forum for the discussion of research findings and methods within the North American Great Lakes region. The conference fosters long-term relationships, provides networking opportunities for researchers from within the region, and creates a collaborative environment for participants from around the world. The 2013 program has been retooled with new elements that will increase the opportunities to present research at many different stages of development. GLBIO will kick off with tutorials and will include a full program of keynotes, selected original research presentations, highlights of published works, flash presentations and posters. Your participation is encouraged!
The Program Schedule for the GLBIO 2013 Conference is now posted: www.iscb.org/glbio2013-program/glbio2013-full-agenda. Note that early registration pricing is available through April 24, 2013 at: www.iscb.org/glbio2013-register/
The hotel reservation deadline is April 23, 2013. To obtain the conference rate of $141/night plus tax, reservations can be made following the links on the "Accommodations" page: www.iscb.org/glbio2013-general-info/glbio2013-accommodations.
"Birds of a Feather": GLBIO 2013 will offer a number of 'spontaneous' open meetings for participants to meet and talk about topics of mutual interest. The "Birds-of-a-Feather" (BoF) meetings offer an opportunity for colleague interaction in a relaxed atmosphere. Participants are encouraged to submit a topic for discussion to
A Group Hike is planned for Monday, May 13th from 5:00pm - 7:00pm through beautiful Schenley Park www.pittsburghparks.org/schenley. Hikers will meet at the Registration Desk at the GLBIO Conference and additional details will be provided.
GLBIO topic areas include: Algorithm Development & Machine Learning; Databases and Ontologies; Text Mining & Natural Language Processing; Bioimage Analysis; Biological Networks; Chemical Biology; Clinical Informatics & Epidemiology; Disease Models & Molecular Medicine; Evolutionary, Comparative, and Meta-Genomics, Gene Regulation & Transcriptomics; Mass Spectrometry & Proteomics; Personalized Genetics and Genomics: Exome, Genome, Transcriptome; RNA & Protein: Structure, Modification, Localizations, Interaction, Function
This year's keynote presenters exemplify the diversity of the field within this region: Ivet Bahar of University of Pittsburgh; Ziv Bar-Joseph of Carnegie Mellon University (and recipient of the 2012 ISCB Overton Prize); Jing Li of Case Western Reserve University; and Isidore Rigoutsos of Thomas Jefferson University.
Tutorial topics and presenters will include: Spatial Rule-based Modeling of Cellular Biochemistry with MCell/BioNetGen/CellBlender presented by James Faeder (University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine; Exploring and Enabling Biomedical Data Analysis with Galaxy presented by Anton Nekrutenko (Penn State University) and Machine Learning in Biology presented by Seyoung Kim and Eric Xing (Carnegie Mellon University).
We look forward to your participation! Please help spread the word by sharing this information with your colleagues and collaborators.

Dear Colleague,
Submission deadlines for Late Posters and Technology Track presentations for ISMB/ECCB 2013 are approaching. The conference provides a multidisciplinary forum for disseminating the latest developments in bioinformatics/computational biology. Please consider sharing your work!
The Late Poster submission deadline is Friday, April 19.
< learn about late poster submission here >
Posters submitted may cover any area of computational biology or bioinformatics. We also encourage submission of purely experimental work and experimental posters should be submitted to the category most accurately reflecting the area of this work and will be displayed accordingly. Posters must include original work that is unpublished or published after August 1, 2012.
Technology Track submission deadline is Friday, April 26.
< learn about Technology Track submission here >
The Technology Track allow organizations to showcase their software and/or hardware relevant to the bioinformatics / molecular biology community.
Additional upcoming submission opportunities/deadlines:
Art & Science Exhibition: May 13
The ISMB/ECCB 2013 Conference will be held July 21-23 at the ICC Berlin, Germany.
