What is the local climate?

Copenhagen is classified as a temperate oceanic climate zone, with sunny daytime skies, brief afternoon rain showers and refreshing breezes blowing in from the surrounding waters. July is the hottest month in Copenhagen with a mean temperature of 17°C (64°F). The average low temperature is 14°C (57°F) and the average high temperature is 22°C (72°F). January is the coldest month in Copenhagen, averaging 1°C (34 °F).

While rainfall occurs throughout the year, August has been recorded as the wettest month with an average 61.21 mm (2.41") of precipitation.

Reminder: Even though the conference is being held during the summer, it’s a good idea to bring a light sweater or jacket to wear inside the conference venue in case the air conditioning makes it a bit chilly indoors.

What is the local electrical current?

Denmark primarily uses Type K outlets and power plugs. You will also encounter Type E and Type C (Europlug) outlets. Type C plugs fit perfectly into Danish Type K sockets.

If your country of origin does not use these plugs/sockets, you will need to bring a plug adapter to ensure you can power and charge your devices.

  • From North America (US/Canada) or South America: You will need a plug adapter. Check your device's power brick: if it says INPUT: 100-240V, it is dual-voltage and only needs an adapter. If it only reads 110V or 120V (common for hair dryers or curling irons), you will also need a voltage converter to prevent frying your appliance.
  • From the UK, Australia, NZ, Asia, Africa: The voltage is compatible. You will only need a basic mechanical plug adapter to change the shape of the prongs.
  • From Continental Europe: Most of your standard Type C plugs will plug straight into the outlets without any adapter at all.

Reminder, these are general tips depending on your location. You should always check your specific, individual items and investigate whether you need adapters and/or converters.

What is the local custom on tipping?

Below are some general guidelines on tipping etiquette in Denmark.

Restaurants and Pubs
In a restaurant, menus and bills include service charges by law. You can round up the bill or leave 5% to 10%, but large tips are rare and unexpected.

At pubs, it is not necessary, but you may round up to the nearest krone for an exceptional bartender if you wish.

Hotels
Tips for porters or housekeeping are not required, though leaving a small amount for any employees who’ve helped you or provided excellent service during your stay is appreciated.

Taxis
Fares are high and include service; tips are not expected. You can round up to the nearest whole krone if you wish.

What is the local currency?

The local currency in Denmark is the Danish krone (kr.). There are 100 øre (ø or øre) to one krone.

If you wish to use analog money to pay for expenses while in Denmark, note that øre coins are not often used. The most common kr coins come in 1 kr, 2 kr, 5 kr, 10 kr, and 20 kr denominations. The most common kr notes come in 50 kr, 100 kr, 200 kr, 500 kr, and 1,000 kr denominations.

Contactless card payments are common in Denmark. If you’re traveling from out-of-country, it may be easiest to pay with a credit card as needed (e.g., MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover).
