Submissions are invited for oral presentation abstracts and posters at the 1st Great Plains Conference, an official conference of the International Society for Computational Biology. This is an invitation to scientists and professionals working in the fields of bioinformatics and computational biology to submit high quality original research papers for presentation at Great Plains 2026. Authors of papers and oral abstracts that are accepted to the conference will present their work at the conference (longer talks for full papers, shorter talks for the abstracts). Accepted full papers will be considered for inclusion in a special issue of Bioinformatics Advances.

Abstracts for Oral Presentation submissions to Great Plains should be approximately 250 words and have no figures. Adding references to already published papers is recommended where appropriate. Please review all Submission deadlines on the Key Dates page.

Any abstracts submitted after the deadline will be included only at the discretion of the conference chairs and will be eligible for poster presentations only. Please also note that we can only allow one abstract per presenting author.

Any pre-approved virtual presenters will be required to provide a pre-recorded talk for the virtual platform in advance of the conference as a precaution due to possible technical issues.

This conference follows the ISCB policy for acceptable use of large language models (https://www.iscb.org/about-iscb/policy-statements-bylaws-and-legal-documents/acceptable-use-of-large-language-models-policy).

Presentater Requirements

The same talk is not permitted to be given more than once as an oral presentation. Research may be presented as both a talk and a poster if and only if it is submitted as two individual submissions with TWO different presenters. This allows for many people from one lab to present the work of the lab.

ISCB strongly prefers that submissions accepted for oral presentation be presented in-person at the conference venue. We understand that some presenters will have good reasons to avoid in-person attendance. ISCB will grant remote presentation options for reasons associated with maternity/paternity leave, care for a family member, personal/medical disability, sickness, or visa problems. Presenters are expected to attend in person unless genuine barriers exist. Inability implies circumstance, not choice. You will be asked during your confirmation of participation to confirm your in-person participation. If unable to participate in-person, you will need to request a waiver by writing This email address is being protected from spambots. Submission Guidelines

Any recent research, published or unpublished, is eligible for submission.  Presenters of accepted abstracts are required to make the presentation themselves and must register and pay to attend the conference.

Submitters may choose to have their submission reviewed for:

  1. Talk only
  2. Talk or Poster
  3. Poster only

If you select talk or poster, and are unsuccessful for a talk, your abstract will automatically be considered for a poster presentation.  Deadlines are posted above.

Poster only submissions DO NOT require any materials to be uploaded during submission. Submissions are evaluated on the 250 word text abstract provided during submission.

This conference will feature a student-organized symposium before the main conference.  The submitter will be asked to indicate their wish to be considered for presentation within this section of the conference.  Students and Post-docs are strongly encouraged to consider opting into this option as well as the option to be considered for the main conference.

Participants who opt for (1) talk only or (2) talk and poster are required to submit:

  • Both a 250-word abstract to be posted on the conference website AND a long abstract of up to one (1) page in PDF format.

Participants who opt for (3) poster only are required to submit:

  • A 250-word abstract to be posted on the conference website.

All abstracts must be submitted using the conference submission site by the deadlines above.

Poster Details

In-Person Poster Hall

When preparing accepted posters, please note that your printed poster should not exceed the following dimensions: 46 inches wide by 46 inches high. There will be 1or 2 posters per side on each poster board. Additionally, we ask that you also follow the Virtual Poster Hall information below in addition to your in-person presentation. This ensures all posters are viewable to both in-person and virtual attendees, thus providing more exposure to your work.

Virtual Poster Hall

When preparing accepted posters, please note that your poster will need to be uploaded via the virtual platform portal in two formats: a PDF of the poster and a 5-7 minute flash talk video not to exceed 100MB. Poster portal information will be sent to all approved posters closer to the conference and after the notification deadline. Please review all Submission deadlines on the Key Dates page.
*Late-breaking posters will have a very short turnaround.
