Come have some fun and run around in Boston Common!
On Friday afternoon, July 11th, 6:30 pm, ISMB will host the annual Orienteering based navigation challenge.  This year, we will be offering a new option to the map based challenge.  You may either do the traditional map-only course, or teams may choose to use your iPhone as a GPS to find designated locations in the terrain.

You do not need to have a team before you come to the event; we will find teammates for you so you will get to meet some fellow conference attendees.

However, you are also welcome to come as a team if you like. The ideal size of a team is 2 to 4 people.

Ultimate Treasure Hunts, LLC (UTH) will design and facilitate a fun sixty minute map based activity for up to one hundred fifty participants at the ISMB conference.

There will be two options for the activity.  A winner will be determined for both games:

1)        MAP  Participants will arrive and form teams or select partners.  Participants will be given a paper map with a sheet of questions to answer. They will have 60 minutes from the time they begin to visit the marked areas on the map and to answer a question associated with that location.  A winner will be determined with time and number of correct answers.

2)       GPS   A GPS option will be available.  Participants that would like to use this navigation method will download a free iPhone app prior to arriving at the start location (we will send you instructions by email and include them in your registration packet). Directions will be given to familiarize them with its use. Their phone will be used as a GPS to enter coordinates that are handed out along with the questions.  Participants will use their phones to locate the latitude/longitude point to answer the corresponding question. Participants will be allowed time to program coordinates and plan their routes.  A strategy using more than one phone per team would be most efficient.
