Send a Student to ISMB
The International
Society for Computational Biology seeks your help to enable students
and junior researchers to attend the 2006 conference on Intelligent
Systems for Molecular Biology (ISMB). ISMB is the world’s
largest and most established non-profit scientific conference focused
on current research in bioinformatics and computational biology.
ISMB 2006 will be held August 6-10 in Fortaleza, Brazil, and promises
to be one of the most scientifically exciting conferences to date,
including:
- Three
Nobel Laureates among the eight keynote speakers
- Ninety
25-minute oral presentations selected by rigorous peer review
of submitted papers and abstracts
- Forty
one-hour software/hardware technical demonstrations
- Over
600 scientific posters
- Over
30 commercial and not-for-profit exhibitors featuring hardware,
software, publications and services of particular interest to
the
bioinformatics research community.
ISMB is the
annual meeting of the International Society for Computational Biology,
and as such it is the primary vehicle for achieving our mission
of advancing the scientific understanding of living systems through
computation. Being able to support the needs of students and junior
researchers at this resource-limited stage of their careers is vital
to the future of the life sciences. Although ISCB secures conference
fellowship grant funding from U.S. government agencies, the need
for funds far outweighs our resources, and each year we are only
able to support less than one half of all eligible student and junior
researcher applicants (eligibility restricted to those presenting
a paper or poster at the conference).
Therefore, we
are reaching out to our community of ISCB members, past ISMB attendees,
and other friends of the Society to request your help. Please consider
making a charitable donation to ISCB that can be applied directly
to the ISMB travel fellowship fund, or to the Society’s general
resources fund, enabling us to provide fellowships to other conferences
such as ECCB, PSB, RECOMB, as well as fund other areas of need that
arise throughout the year. As a registered 501(c)(3) charity in
the United States, all donations are IRS tax deductible.
You or your
company/institution can play a key role in guiding the growth of
bioinformatics and computational biology as a donor to ISCB. I thank
you for your consideration and generosity.
Sincerely,

President,
International Society for Computational Biology
