The ISCB Student Council is organizing the 2nd Student Council Symposium to be held on Sunday, August 6th, in parallel to the ISMB 2006 tutorial sessions in Fortaleza, Brazil. The Student Council Symposium is a forum for students and young researchers in the field of computational biology. Participants will have the opportunity to present their work to an international audience, build a network within the computational biology community and develop important soft skills in an environment that fosters exchange of ideas and knowledge.

Accomplished scientists will give an overview of their respective research areas and provide participants with advice on how to build a successful career in a rapidly evolving discipline. This is a rare opportunity for aspiring scientists to interact with the pioneers of the field.

To sign up for the Student Council Symposium please visit the ISMB 2006 registration page (ismb2006.cbi.cnptia.embrapa.br/reg.html). You can either register by fax or mail or by using the online registration system (recommended). Make sure you select "SCS2: 2nd ISCB Student Council Symposium" when you register.

A registration fee of $25 is charged for the event. This includes a full day of presentations, transportation to and from the convention center and hotel zone, two refreshment breaks, a luncheon, and poster session.

We strongly encourage all students to apply for an ISCB travel fellowship (www.iscb.org/ismb06/fship.php). If you are currently not a member of the ISCB you can save on the ISMB registration fee by joining the ISCB. Don't forget to join the Student Council for free!

Submission of Abstracts
All participants are encouraged to submit an abstract for display in the SCS2 poster session, and for possible elevation to an oral presentation at the symposium. Abstract submissions are now being accepted at www.iscb.org/ismb06/scs2posters.php.

Be sure to submit your abstract by the deadline of June 1, 2006.

We are planning for 3 keynote speakers and 3 sessions with 4 to 5 oral presentations related to the area of the keynote. Two sessions will be in the morning, followed by an extended lunch break and a poster session. An additional session will be held in the afternoon. Finally there will be more networking opportunities during a social event in the evening.

A detailed agenda will be posted once we have confirmed our keynote speakers.
