The ISCB Affiliates program is designed to forge links between ISCB and regional non-profit membership groups, centers, institutes and networks that involve researchers from various institutions and/or organizations within a defined geographic region involved in the advancement of bioinformatics. Such groups have regular meetings either in person or online, and an organizing body in the form of a board of directors or steering committee. If you are interested in affiliating your regional membership group, center, institute or network with ISCB, please review these guidelines (.pdf) and send your exploratory questions to Diane E. Kovats, ISCB Chief Executive Officer (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.). For information about the Affilliates Committee click here.

VAT is a general, broadly based consumption tax assessed on the value added to goods and services. It applies more or less to all goods and services that are bought and sold for use or consumption in the European Union. ISCB is seen as a service provider and is obliged to follow the tax laws of the country in which ISMB is being held. VAT collected is paid directly to the resident country where ISMB is held. Join conference delegates for a fun evening in support of ISCB Travel Fellowships at U Fleků. The Brewery and Restaurant U Fleků is one of the most famous and most visited Czech cultural venues in Prague.
The first written document dates back to 1499 when the house was bought by maltster Vít Skřemenec. The brewery U Fleků is thus the only brewery in Central Europe which has been brewing continuously for over 500 years. The brewery was nationalised with the onset of the communist rule. The original owners, the Brtník family, regained the brewery and restaurant in 1991, after the fall of the regime. U Fleků is not only the most famous Czech restaurant, but also a pilgrimage site for all beer lovers, both Czech and foreign. The restaurant offers Old-Bohemian dishes with true Czech charm.

Janet Thornton is an EMBL Senior Scientist at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI), leading a small computational research group focused on proteins and their 3D structure and evolution. Her recent research explores how enzymes perform catalysis by gathering relevant data from the literature and developing novel software tools, which allow us to characterise enzyme mechanisms and navigate the catalytic and substrate space. In parallel, she investigates the evolution of these enzymes to discover how they can evolve new mechanisms and specificities. The practical goal of this research is to improve the prediction of function from sequence and structure and to enable the design of new proteins or small molecules with novel functions. Her research was recognised by election to the Royal Society in 1999 and election as a Foreign Associate of the US National Academy of Sciences in 2001. She was awarded a DBE in 2013. She recently stepped down as Director to return to scientific research.

Yves is currently a professor of engineering at the University of Leuven and does research on computational methods for diagnosis and disease gene discovery in congenital genetic disorders. He teaches several bioinformatics courses, mainly focusing on probabilistic models in computational biology. An associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics and a co-founder of two spin-off starts of the university (Data4s, now part of Norkom Technologies, specialized in data-mining for the banking industry, and Cartagenia, specialized in IT solutions for clinical genetic diagnosis).
